The story of modern copyright law starts with the arrival of the printing press in England in the late sixteenth century. What started as an attempt by the English government in the 1600's to award a monopoly to the printing industry gave more rights to the author in the Statute of Anne in 1710 and even more rights to the author in the Constitution of the United States to provide economic reward and incentive to authors and creators.
